About Civil Engineering Course

The courses listed here are newly updated Syllabus (2066). It includes Course Contents for Institute of Engineering (IOE) constituent and affiliated Engineering Colleges / Academic Institutions affiliated to Tribhuvan University (TU), Nepal. The civil engineering courses are for four years comprised of eight semesters with two in each year for bachelor level. The details about each subject content along with the marking scheme can be viewed by clicking on each link. About four exams are held each year in BCE comprising two regular board exams and two back exams of each semester. Civil Engineering, is a four-year Bachelor program in Engineering offered by IOE, TU.

Objectives

These objectives collectively contribute to the field of civil engineering, which plays a crucial role in shaping the physical and functional aspects of the built environment.

  • Infrastructure Development: Designing, constructing, and maintaining essential infrastructure such as roads, bridges, dams, airports, and water supply systems.
  • Safety and Stability: Ensuring the safety and stability of structures and facilities to withstand various loads, natural forces, and potential hazards.
  • Environmental Sustainability: Integrating eco-friendly practices into design and construction to minimize environmental impact and promote sustainable development.
  • Urban Planning: Creating efficient and livable urban spaces through careful city layout, zoning regulations, transportation networks, and public amenities.
  • Water Resource Management: Managing water supply, distribution, and drainage systems to address flooding, droughts, and water quality issues.
  • Geotechnical Engineering: Understanding soil and rock properties to provide stable foundations for structures and mitigate geotechnical hazards.
  • Transportation Systems: Developing efficient and safe transportation networks, including roads, railways, airports, and public transit systems.
  • Materials and Construction Management: Selecting appropriate materials and overseeing construction processes to ensure durability, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Risk Assessment and Management: Identifying potential risks during construction and operation, and implementing measures to mitigate those risks.
  • Innovation and Technology: Embracing new technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), automation, and advanced materials to improve construction processes and outcomes.
  • Project Planning and Management: Efficiently planning, scheduling, and managing construction projects to meet deadlines and budgets.
  • Community and Societal Impact: Considering the social and economic impact of projects on communities, including accessibility, affordability, and overall well-being.
  • Maintenance and Rehabilitation: Developing strategies for the ongoing maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation of infrastructure to extend their service life.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring that projects adhere to relevant building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Working collaboratively with architects, urban planners, environmental scientists, and other professionals to create integrated and well-designed projects.
  • Disaster Preparedness and Recovery: Designing structures and systems to withstand and recover from natural and man-made disasters.
