Department Overview
The Department of Electrical Engineering at National College of Engineering (NCE) was established in 2009 AD, building upon the institution’s strong tradition of engineering education since 2001 AD. The department offers a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering program with an annual intake capacity of 48 students. The program combines strong academic foundations with practical and field-visit-based learning, preparing graduates with technical expertise, professional competence, and innovative mindset needed to address contemporary challenges in the electrical engineering profession.
One of the department’s greatest strengths is its distinguished faculty and advanced laboratory facilities. It is among the few departments in Nepal to have two full professors in Electrical Engineering. The faculty team includes graduates from prestigious institutions such as the Institute of Engineering (IOE), the IITs of India, and Kyoto University, Japan, providing students with valuable academic mentorship and exposure to modern engineering practices.
The department is supported by a comprehensive range of specialized laboratories, including electrical machines, power systems, protection, power electronics, drives, control systems, instrumentation, and renewable energy. A distinctive feature of the facility is its 10 kW Solar PV Plant and Hydropower Training Plant, both of which offer invaluable, hands-on experience in power generation, grid synchronization, and control systems. This state-of-the-art infrastructure, combined with the active initiative of the student-led Electrical Club, creates a deeply collaborative and self-driven learning environment.
The department has consistently achieved excellent results in IOE examinations and continues to attract high-ranking entrance candidates. The presence of these students elevates classroom discussions and enhances the overall college learning environment. This academic excellence strengthens its reputation as one of Nepal’s leading centers for electrical engineering education. Consequently,
