NCE Yatra 5.0

YATRA 5.0 was successfully conducted on Shrawan 15–16, 2083 (31 July–1 August 2026) as the fifth edition of National College of Engineering’s flagship technology and innovation festival. The event was jointly implemented by the NCE IT Club, NCE Robotics Club, Civil Engineering Students’ Society (CESS) and NCE Electrical Engineering Club under the coordination of the Research & Development Division.

YATRA 5.0 brought together technical competitions, project exhibitions, demonstrations, coding activities, robotics competitions, a 24-hour Ideathon, outreach activities and interactive events. The event demonstrated significant student initiative and multidisciplinary collaboration.

The Robotics Club reported 40 registered teams across four competition categories, 200+ registered participants and an audience of 800+. The IT Club reported approximately five weeks of active organizational work involving volunteer recruitment, project calls, orientation, outreach, sponsorship mobilization, the Ideathon, project exhibition and coding competitions.

Despite successful completion, the post-event reviews identified several areas requiring institutional attention, including limited preparation time, late confirmation and procurement of resources, unclear division of responsibilities, volunteer management, power and weather-related risks, facility coordination, catering and water supply, sponsorship administration, stall-pricing inconsistencies and insufficient historical documentation.

Overall, YATRA 5.0 was a successful and valuable student-led technical festival. Future growth will require a transition from event-specific preparation to a structured institutional event-management framework. The key priority for YATRA 6.0 should be early planning, clearly defined responsibilities, standardized operational procedures, sustainable financial planning, stronger industry engagement, improved participant experience and systematic documentation.

Major Event Components

Robotics Competitions

Four major robotics tracks were conducted: LFR Mesmerizer,
Robo Soccer, Robo Sumo (5 kg), and
Robo Pop. The Robotics Club reported 40 team entries
and successful completion of all four tracks.

 IT and Computing Activities

The IT component included IT project exhibition, CSS Wars, One Shot Coding, collaborative gaming, Tech Meme Competition, project selection and the 24-hour Ideathon. Five projects were selected for the IT Project Exhibition and 12 teams participated across the two coding competitions.

24-Hour Ideathon

The Ideathon included 12 teams and 47 participants: six all-NCE teams, one mixed NCE/external team and five external teams. Participating external institutions included Sagarmatha College, Advanced College of Engineering, Kathmandu University and Herald College Kathmandu.

Electrical/Civil Engineering Activities

Electrical activities included Smart Home Automation, Dual-Axis Solar Tracker, Smart Irrigation, HV Transmission Line, 3-Phase Analysis and Protection, Motor Control, ElectroConnect, Technical Presentation Competition, Electrical Quiz, Escape Room, Tesla Coil, Buzz Wire and Human Power Challenge. The Civil Engineering events include Model Exhibition, Poster Presentation, Civil Clues, and Shake & Survive. The Model Exhibition and Poster Presentation are held at Block G, providing platforms for students to showcase innovative civil engineering models and technical ideas. Civil Clues, conducted at the Seminar Hall on Day 2, is a civil engineering–focused quiz/activity. Shake & Survive I is scheduled in Rooms 201 & 202 on Day 1, while Shake & Survive II is held at the Block G Ground on Day 2, focusing on earthquake-related challenges and structural/seismic concepts.

Outreach and Promotion

Inter-college outreach targeted engineering colleges, IT colleges, +2 institutions and schools across Kathmandu Valley. A three-day Flash Mob campaign was also conducted across several institutions.
